Training classes ensure that all dancers progress at a consistent pace with the appropriate skills and technique. These classes help build strength, stability, technique, and teamwork, which are essential for a dancer’s development. Dancers are placed in classes based on age and skill level to ensure a structured and progressive learning experience.
Absolutely! Your child is welcome to request participation in multiple groups, as long as they can handle the workload. However, it is the dancer’s responsibility to remember choreography from week to week to ensure consistent growth and progress.
Cleaning sessions are focused rehearsals designed to refine routines and prepare dancers for the stage. During these sessions, we work on:
- Timing and synchronization
- Precision of movements
- Storytelling and emotional expression
- Character and performance development
Cleaning sessions for solos and duos are scheduled biweekly. If your dancer participates in multiple dances with different teachers, sessions will be scheduled accordingly.
Placements are carefully determined by the studio director and choreographers to ensure that each dancer is placed appropriately based on their skills and abilities.
Solos: Solo requests are reviewed, but not all may be accepted. While the requested style is considered, the final decision is made by the choreographers and studio director to ensure the best fit. If a dancer is not placed in their requested solo style, they may be offered a solo in another style or invited to join an additional group.
Duos: Duo partner requests are taken into consideration, but the final decision is made by the choreographers and studio director. If the requested pairing is not deemed suitable, an alternate partner may be suggested. If a dancer is not placed in a duo, they may be invited to join an additional group instead.
Groups: Group placements are based on a combination of factors, including:
- Ability to learn and retain choreography
- Technical skill level
- Movement quality and performance ability
- Cohesiveness with the group and storyline concept
- Overall behaviour and commitment throughout the year
Factors that are not taken into consideration are: Friendships and age. While age is taken into account, it is not a determining factor. We love seeing friendships flourish, and your child will still have opportunities to dance with friends in non-competitive classes, which are structured more around age and social connections.
Choreography is uniquely developed by each choreographer based on:
- Age group
- Technique abilities
- Storyline and Concept
- Natural Movement Quality
Costumes are selected by the choreographer and finalized by the studio director. Costumes are chosen to enhance the performance and match the artistic vision of the dance. Whenever possible, we use costumes from our existing inventory; otherwise, new costumes will be ordered as needed.
Music is carefully selected by choreographers to ensure it is age-appropriate and inspiring. While some choreographers are open to suggestions, the final decision rests with them, as they need to feel a connection to the music in order to create their best choreography.
Competitions run from late February to late May. Schedules are typically released 2–4 weeks before the event. While organizers aim to schedule performances on weekends, some competitions may take place during school or work hours.
Competitions require dancers to compete in at least one group routine in order to be eligible for solos and duos. Additionally, group participation helps dancers build teamwork, adaptability, and performance skills, fostering a well-rounded competitive experience.
